West Branch flexes his muscles in a big win | News, Sports, Jobs


CANTON – West Branch stormed Canton South and went undefeated with a 63-42 victory on Friday.

Steven Marra scored a school record of seven touchdowns for the Warriors, beating the previous mark of six set by Tom Hinton in 2001,

Marra was the workhorse as he rushed for 291 yards on 37 carries.

West Branch’s Nick Wilson and Jaxon Hendershott each had over 100 receiving yards in the road contest.

Warriors quarterback Dru DeShields also threw for 320 yards on 14 of 16 attempts.

Wilson tied the career touchdown receiving record with 19. The last warrior to accomplish this feat was Greg Sharp (1983-85).

West Branch’s offense totaled 672 yards, 352 rushing yards and 26 first downs.

Canton South’s Poochie Snyder had four touchdowns in the loss.

Next week, the Warriors will host Howland.

West Branch is 5-0, 2-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Canton Sud fell to 3-2 and 0-2 in the EBC.

LISBON – Valley Christian opened his Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference roster with a flurry.

The Lisbon Blue Devils made sure the Eagles held on as Valley escaped with a 28-19 win on Friday.

Valley (3-1, 1-0) was coming off a week off due to a COVID cancellation with United.

Lisbon falls to 0-3 and 0-2.

Trevor Siefke completed 11 of 16 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns for the Devils. Logan Stauffer had four catches for 102 yards and two scores.

Siefke added a 5-yard touchdown run.

Lisbon hosts Eastern Palestine on Friday, while Valley is in Leetonia on Friday.

EAST PALESTINE – The Wellsville football team won their second straight game of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 35-0 victory over East Palestine on Friday.

Wellsville is 2-1, 2-0 in the EOAC while East Palestine is down to 0-4, 0-2.

Isaiah Greathouse hit 43 and 19 yard touchdowns to open the scoring in the first quarter.

Garrett Krzyston caught a 16-yard touchdown from Valen Krzyston for the Tigers’ other score in the first quarter.

Gavin Kountz scored a touchdown on a 15-yard run to extend the Tigers’ lead to 28-0.

Richie Dowling’s 2-yard run with 4:26 left in the second quarter topped the Tigers’ score.

Greathouse led the rushing attack with six carries for 99 yards. Valen Krzyston had nine carries for 40 yards.

Defensively, Tanner Rambo made four tackles for the Tigers, including one for a loss. Kasen Ramsey added three and a half tackles including two solo.

Owen Jurjavcic had 61 yards on 13 carries for the Bulldogs.

Wellsville receives rival Southern on Friday, while Eastern Palestine hosts Lisbon.

The Indians face rival Wellsville on Friday as the team play five of their last four road games.

Columbiana welcomes United next Friday for their penultimate home game of the season.
