MESQUITE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A 27-year ministry veteran and former Deputy Police Chief, David Gill is Mequite’s new chief.

“David Gill has proven to be a great leader in the department and is highly respected by officers and civilian personnel. His experience with the service will be of great benefit to the city as the service continues to address the challenges of our growing community, ”said City Manager Cliff Keheley.

Chief Gill has served in all areas of the ministry both as a supervisor and as an officer. He won 34 departmental distinctions, including three Life Saving Awards and two certificates of merit.

Gill was hired as a police officer in January 1994. During his career he spent 13 years in command positions, including as head of the tactical division of the ministry and as a military training officer. ground. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Midwestern State University and is a fellow of the Texas Tech University System, where he graduated with Honors from Criminal Justice College. In December 2021, he will complete his Master of Science in Law Enforcement Management and Leadership from Sam Houston State University. Gill is active in community activities, serving as a deacon in his church and a graduate of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Mesquite Leadership Program.

Gill has been Deputy Police Chief to Acting Police Chief David Faaborg since March 2021, when Charles Cato resigned. Faaborg will resume his role as Deputy Chief of Police. Gill is expected to be officially sworn in as police chief on Oct. 18 in a special ceremony at the 7 p.m. city council meeting.
