On the first Saturday of every month, historic downtown Palestine is the place to be. Explore antique shops and quirky boutiques. Find fresh produce and crafts at the Farmer’s Market. Window show as the buskers play you a tune. Enjoy lunch at a local dive shop, then spend the evening around a campfire with friends in the Old Town.

The Anderson County Retired Educators Associations will meet at First Christian Church, 113 E. Crawford St. Come at 2:30 p.m. to visit, and the meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Eugene Buford, the District Information and Protective Service Representative, will introduce the program.

However, beneath this attractive facade, the house hides a dark secret – it was the scene of a murder-suicide in the 1950s, and there have been many suspicious deaths in the house over the years. The historic Bowers Mansion in the small town of Palestine, East Texas has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most haunted places in the country. A bit of a local legend, until recently no other paranormal group has been able to investigate this historic Texas landmark. I GOAT YOU baby! goat yoga

Enjoy the fun of Goat Yoga on Valentine’s Day weekend at Oh My Goat Yoga. The goats will be dressed in a Valentine’s Day theme. If the temperatures are cool, there will be a hot chocolate bar. As always, hourly classes are subject to change or are held indoors. You will be notified. Tickets are available now. Class time is one hour and includes use of a mat, photos with the goats, and hot chocolate if it’s cold.

Mardi gras on the main street

2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 19

The Palestine Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Mardi Gras after party in downtown Palestine. Followed by the Mystics of Time Krewe’s Mardi Gras Parade at 5 p.m. For more information, call 903-729-6066.

Baby it’s cold outside goat yoga

2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 26

Put on your favorite beanie, the goats will all have theirs, and snuggle up with the goats for a bit of fun and laughter. If it’s really cold outside, they’ll have their hot chocolate bar. As always, the price includes one hour of yoga, use of a mat, photos with the goats. Due to the possibility of inclement weather, classes may be held indoors or rescheduled.
