John Walsh: Ohio’s leadership opportunity for the future of commercial electric vehicles is now

Ohio is an automobile manufacturing center in the United States. In fact, Ohio’s workforce is the reason we set up Endera’s 250,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Ottawa. Endera is a technology company specializing in commercial electric vehicles, charging stations and software solutions.

Ohio has given us an economic advantage over other states to manufacture quality commercial electric vehicles, including shuttles, school buses and van trucks, at a competitive price. To meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, Endera is rapidly expanding its employee base in the state.

Across the country, companies such as General Motors and Ford have announced multi-billion dollar commitments to manufacturing electric vehicles. Companies like Endera can help Ohioans secure a leadership position in electric vehicle manufacturing while creating high-quality jobs and ample training and advancement opportunities for Ohioans. Ohio. We want Ohio to be at the forefront of this industry, and that means jobs for Ohioans.

However, if we are to achieve this leadership position, we must ensure that the state takes action now to ensure that Ohio is not left behind. We must ensure that we have the appropriate policy framework to protect and grow this industry and Ohio’s interests. SB 307, the Ohio Auto Industry Acceleration Bill recently introduced by Sen. Michael Rulli, will help us get there.

SB 307 aims to protect and grow Ohio’s vehicle manufacturing industry and supply chain. The bill :

• Protect and grow jobs in Ohio by investing in workforce training and plant retooling.

• Encourage the growth of Ohio’s electric vehicle market through incentives for fleets and consumer vehicles.

• Create a state electric vehicle task force and electrification plan to help Ohio become a leader in the production and adoption of electric vehicles.

• Unlock much-needed investments in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Accelerating Ohio’s Automotive Industry is an aggressive, multi-part legislative package that helps sustain and grow Ohio’s automotive industry for future generations. This sends a strong signal to the industry that Ohio is serious about remaining a strong partner to the auto industry as it transitions to electric vehicle production.

Ohio already has an incredible competitive advantage, and maintaining it is essential. We need to make sure Ohio doesn’t get left behind. The incentives contained in this bill will help solidify our state’s leadership role by encouraging investment in plant retooling, equipment, and job training needed to advance the electric vehicle industrial base. Incentives to catalyze US EV manufacturing are good for America, good for Ohio, and good for jobs.
