Concerned residents will hold a public meeting on injection well project

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Affected residents will hold a meeting regarding a proposed injection well in Little Hocking.

The public will gather at Freedom Gate Church in Marietta on Monday in a search for clarity.

Organizer Glenn Newman said the majority of concerns were about the site’s proximity to a water well and the dangers it could pose to drinking water.

The meeting is a response to a previous public meeting organized by ODNR’s Oil and Gas Resource Management Division. Newman said officials are listening to comments but won’t answer questions. He knows that some participants who spoke received email responses, but knows that not everyone did.

“After a few weeks, I thought nobody understood what was going on there. I don’t know if they allowed the well to be drilled, if they said no it couldn’t be drilled – I have no idea,” he said.

At least one person who received an email response will be there and Newman hopes other people who received emails will also come with their emails.

Newman added that local oil and gas producers suing the state over injection wells will also attend.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m.
